Sunday thoughts

Hello! The powers that be have announced another thing I have written, at last! Adventure Time volume 4: BITTER SWEETS. It’s the same creative team (the amazing Zack Sterling is drawing it and the incredible Stephanie Gonzaga did that ferocious cover) as SEEING RED, except this time I guess it’s in COLOUR and it’s about the two PBs: Princess Bubblegum and Peppermint Butler.
They say:
WHAT IT’S ABOUT: It’s that lovely time of year where Princess Bubblegum gets to leave the Candy Kingdom and venture out into the outer limits of Ooo. But when her annual quest to visit old friends takes a dark and unexpected turn, it’s up to PB and Peppermint Butler to keep the peace by using the true power of friendship. Written by New York Times bestselling author Kate Leth (Adventure Time: Seeing Red), and illustrated by the sensational Zachary Sterling (Aventure Time), Bitter Sweets is a deliciously twisted adventure with a surprising aftertaste.

I say:

P Bubs and Pep Butts go on a magical quest. There are whole new kingdoms, feelings, friendships, mysteries, magic and a sweet (hah) party. It kicks the Bechdel test in the teeth (in a good way!!). Ladies talk to other ladies about QUESTS and LOYALTY and THE DARK ARTS. I hope that you will like it.

Hey, kids! Bravest Warriors #22 is out this upcoming Wednesday, July 23. You can read the rest of this preview and see more awesome covers by Sibylline Meynet and Clair Sullivan (as well as this sweet A cover by Mike Bear) at 13th Dimension! <- the link

They give this synopsis:

The Bravest Warriors know how to save the universe and they know how to save it good! But what happens when it’s the universe’s time to save them? It’s going to be a crazy mission but maybe the universe is up to it, and if not, then hopefully Catbug will come up with something. Right?

But that was written before I had even written the issue and it tells you basically nothing! Here’s what I CAN tell you:

  1. Beth does fight moves
  2. Plum says "butts"
  3. There is a new, different cipher in the alt text
  4. Catbug may or may not use a taser
  5. Chris’ costume in this issue made me laugh so hard I spit my soda

Order it! Ask fer it! Add it to your pull lists! Thanks! :)

The October solicits for kaBOOM! went up yesterday, and WOULDJA LOOK AT THIS:

BRAVEST WARRIORS #25
Retail Price:
$3.99
Author: Kate Leth
Artist: Ian McGinty
Cover Artists: A: Ian McGinty B: Maris Wicks C: Chip Zdarsky (INCENTIVE)
It’s the 2nd Anniversary issue! The team comes face to face with… Bugcat?!  It’s up to the Bravest Warriors to figure out who this little guy is and where he came from because though he may look like everyone’s favorite Catbug, he might be more foe than friend!

Ian and I are PSYCHED about this issue. It also features covers by two of my favourite people, Maris Wicks and Chip Zdarsky! I requested them AGGRESIVELY.

What happens when an evil (?) version of our beloved Catbug shows up at the Bravest Warriors’ home base and starts wreaking havoc? Does he need more than a bath, some yogurt, and a place to go doodie?! Is he eating… edamame???

This issue features some special guests and a bunch of surprises. Please pre-order it. We are upping the BW game.

So, MORE BIG NEWS: I am writing, along with the incredible Drew Rausch on art, along with the amazing Gabriel Rodriguez and Gabriel Hardman on debut covers, EDWARD SCISSORHANDS.

This is a huge deal for me, and for Drew and our amazing editor Sarah Gaydos as well. This all started in talks probably at the latter end of last year, and it’s just now being announced and created. Comics are a crazy waiting game, but it’s so worth it for a project this cool.

We’ll be doing a longer and more in-depth interview soon, but I can tell you this: The words I stressed most importantly, when it came to pitching this plot, were Nancy Drew-esque Teen Girl Mystery. We’re playing in Edward’s world, in the look and feel of the movie, but we’re updating it and bringing it forward a few years in some really neat ways. It’s fun, it’s strange, it’s scary, and I like to think it has a lot of heart. The things you don’t want me to screw up about this movie? Trust me, I really don’t want to screw them up, either. I love Scissorhands. Drew loves Scissorhands. Sarah loves Scissorhands. We’re making something really special.

Please, order this from your local comic shop! Tell ‘em I sent you.
